Open Source Operating Systems
- The FreeBSD Project - derived from BSD, the version of UNIX® developed at the University of California, Berkeley.
- FreeDOS - a free DOS-compatible operating system for IBM-PC compatible systems. FreeDOS is made of up many different, separate programs that act as "packages" to the overall FreeDOS Project.
- GNU HURD - the GNU project's replacement for the Unix kernel.

- Debian - comes with over 18733 packages.
- Kubuntu - based on KDE, the K Desktop Environment.
- Xubuntu - uses the Xfce desktop environment.
